“A hugely entertaining evening… Superb… Simply incredible” The West Australian

One Man. Two Women. The romance of a violin. The passion of tango.

And so the scene is set for Tango’s Violin, the story of a woman who discovers tango through her love of playing the violin.
One night her life changes when she meets a man unlike any other.
The temperature rises as they impress each other and eventually he sweeps her off her feet by dancing with her. They fall in love.
But little does she know, everything is just about to change….

Featuring the music and dancing associated with a seductive Latin flavour wound around a sensual tale,
Tango’s Violin is the world’s first tango musical. It’s a show about the passion, anguish and power that is tango.

Former Artistic Director of the Perth Theatre Company, Alan Becher, joined the show for its second season in 2007 in Perth providing dramaturgical guidance and directing expertise bringing the dramatic element to a higher level. Sadly in 2008 Alan passed away after a short battle with cancer. Therefore to date, a new director has not been appointed. Alto Productions gratefully acknowledges the encouragement and skills that Alan added to this show. He is greatly missed.

Jessica Nichols. The Age 17/12/05

"One man. Two women. The romance of a violin. The passion of tango. And so the scene is set for Tango's Violin, a musical tale exploring the lure of Argentina's most seductive cultural export. Perth musician, Sophie Kesoglidis ( a classically trained violinist who has fallen under tango's spell) shapes her debut production around the sensuality and strong emotions that characterise tango in both sung and danced forms. Kesoglidis' four-piece band, red dash black, provides the soundtrack to the story, which takes place in a typical Argentinian milonga (tango nightclub). Melbourne vocalist Yvette Johansson plays the milonga's songstress, while Fabio Robles and Ana Andre (2005 Australian tango dance champions) sculpt the music into slinky moves on the dance floor."
