Missing Persons

A tribute to Jill Meagher.

Welcome to this month's edition of Sophie's Music Club about the sad topic of
Music and... Missing Persons.

You can read more at in this month's blog entry at

Due to the nature of this topic and the current progress of the case of Jill Meagher please note the message from Victoria Police:
"Please remember that it is inappropriate to post speculation or comments about matters before the courts. We ask you to refrain from posting anything on social media which could jeopardise or endanger the presumption of innocence, as this has the very high potential to interfere with the administration of justice."

Anything deemed inappropriate, offensive or not respecting the requests of Victoria Police, will be immediately removed from this site.

"Jill" meaning sweetheart or youthful.

There are no words that I can write to comfort Tom Meagher and all of Jill Meagher's family and friends. The loss of her life is tragic and the grief the family would be experiencing would be overwhelming. So instead, all I can offer is music. Music has the immense power to ease pain, comfort and allow the soul to experience a sense of peace and resolution, if only for a moment.

To the Meagher and McKeon families: May this music offer you the message that I, and hundreds of thousands of others who never met Jill, have felt touched by this tragedy, our thoughts are with you. RIP Jill.
Love and Music, Sophie Kesoglidis

1. Nearer My God to Thee

Performed by Eileen Ivers; Composed by Lowell Mason

This piece is often played at funerals. Here Eileen Ivers plays the hymn in an Irish fiddle style, which, in this case, is to acknowledge Jill Meagher's Irish background.

2. The Wind

Performed by Mariah Carey, Composed by Mariah Carey

I have performed at various funerals. On one occasion this recording was played and I had to perform afterwards.

It so challenging emotionally to listen to such a heart felt song in that context, and then have to play.

3. Moonlight Serenade

Composed by Glenn Miller; Performed by Glenn Miller band

Glenn Miller disappeared in 1944. The case remains unresolved. His music lives on....

4. Visetone
Performed by Tim Rohrmann; Traditional Norwegian tune

"A simple melody, catching the wideness of the sea".

May the gentle innocent sounds of the Celtic harp allow a moment of repose and peace.

 5. Angel

Performed by Sarah McLachlan; Written by Sarah McLachlan

This piece unites the pain and sorrow with the sounds of a comforting voice.
